Emma verfasste ein Schreiben an den Lager­kommandanten persönlich: »Ich bitte höfl. mir mitzuteilen, wo mein Mann sich aufhält und ob er Post oder Päckchen erhalten darf und unter welcher Anschrift.« Sie legte einen Brief an ihren Mann Dagobert bei und brachte den Ein­schreibe­brief zum Hauptpostamt »Hühnerposten« am Haupt­bahnhof. Der Postbeamte sagte: »Den Brief kann ich gaanich annehmen, ich weiß ja gaanich, wo das is. Kommen Sie morgen ma wieder, ich erkundige mich.« Als Emma am nächsten Tag vor ihm stand, sagte er freudig: »Gefunden! Auschwitz! Das liegt in Oberschlesien, da, Richtung Pooln!«
